"From fish to chips”: Grimsby green-tech innovator myenergi celebrates 10 years of growth, job creation, manufacturing success and consumer energy savings

FOUNDED in 2016 by local Grimbarians, engineer Lee Sutton and entrepreneur Jordan Brompton, myenergi began with a single product to help households make the most of self-generated solar power. The company has evolved into an international clean tech manufacturer employing more than 250 people and operating across 10 countries with offices in UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands and Australia. This year, they’ll sell their one millionth product, as they enable the growing global shift to electrification.
These milestones reflect Grimsby's transformation into a growing centre for clean technology and manufacturing. Once the world’s biggest fishing port, the town is increasingly becoming recognised for green innovation, with myenergi helping create skilled jobs, supporting thousands of installers across the UK and exporting British-designed technology around the world.
As co-founder, Lee Sutton, highlights “we’re proud to be a Grimsby-based company in the industrial heartlands. We are helping transform Grimsby from fish to [micro] chips, reinvigorating the region with new manufacturing opportunities and helping put Grimsby on the map as a centre for green-tech.”
Despite a decade marked by Covid-19, inflation, supply chain disruption and uncertainty across the green technology sector, myenergi has continued to grow, and through its connected technologies actively manages 1.7GW of household energy demand, equivalent to almost two-thirds the capacity of Drax’s biomass power station.
Andrew Clint, CEO of myenergi comments, “Celebrating ten years is an incredible milestone, but what makes us most proud is what we've built here in Grimsby. We've created skilled jobs, invested in British manufacturing and worked with installers across the country to bring smarter energy technology to hundreds of thousands of homes and driveways.
"Our success shows what British green technology businesses can achieve with great people, continuous innovation and strong local roots. We're excited to build on that and deliver on our founders’ 100-year vision that will see myenergi contributing to the local and regional economy for the next 90 years."
myenergi's growth has been supported by rising consumer interest in energy independence following geopolitical-led price shocks and net zero trends towards UK-wide electrification. The company's success has been underpinned by a nationwide network of installers who have helped bring connected energy technologies into homes across the UK.
Looking ahead, myenergi believes connected homes will be fundamental to building a resilient, low-carbon energy system. As such, over the next decade, the company predicts the next decade will see connected home energy systems become increasingly mainstream, with supporting technology and installers helping households take greater control of their energy use while supporting a smarter, more flexible energy system.
