Charity Fundraiser for Chamber members - Lindsey Lodge Hospice

TO celebrate graduating from university, and to honour her late grandmother who lived with multiple sclerosis, Ellie Copley took part in Lindsey Lodge’s “50 Jumps, 50 Stories, One Mission” charity skydive. The money raised through the challenge is helping to fund a new family room at Lindsey Lodge, a peaceful and supportive space where family members can be together, reflect and gather their thoughts during an extremely difficult time.
Ellie Copley is originally from Connecticut in the United States. She graduated from the University of St Andrews in July, and she will soon be starting her Master’s degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Ellie completed her skydive with her cousin, Charlotte Fargie, at Skydive Hibaldstow on September 6th to celebrate Charlotte’s 30th birthday later this month.
Ellie commented: “I chose to support Lindsey Lodge through my jump because of the incredibly important work they do for patients and their families. My late grandmother lived with MS for 70 years, and my family was fortunate to receive excellent support throughout the later years of her life. Every family deserves high-quality, compassionate care for their loved ones, and Lindsey Lodge provides exactly that for both patients and their families. So far, I’ve raised £805 and am hoping to reach my £1,000 goal in the next few weeks.”
“On the day of the jump, my cousin and I woke up at 6 a.m. to make our way to Skydive Hibaldstow. The night before, we had both talked about how surprisingly calm we felt because the whole thing still seemed a bit surreal. Once we were in the car and started talking about what we were actually about to do, though, the nerves definitely began to kick in - along with plenty of excitement of course!”
“We were really lucky because the team at Skydive Hibaldstow made us feel comfortable throughout the entire experience. The staff were extremely informative and friendly, and they helped put us at ease. Watching my cousin jump out of the plane first was probably the scariest part, but only moments later my own feet were hanging out beneath the plane, and then I was off!”
“Freefalling through the clouds at 120 mph was unbelievable, but my favourite part was actually when the parachute opened. We could see for miles, and after the adrenaline of the freefall, it suddenly felt incredibly peaceful. Once we landed, we both felt so accomplished and slightly in shock that we had actually done it. I’m writing this the next day and I still can’t quite believe it! Naturally, we went straight inside afterwards and had a beer at about 10 a.m., well deserved, in my opinion!”
