Global Offshore Wind Awards shortlist shines on Grimsby

GLOBAL Offshore Wind Awards 2026, the industry Oscars delivered by national trade body RenewableUK, are celebrating several of the town’s leading lights.

Offshore Training Centre Grimsby managing director, Terri Precious, has been shortlisted as a Made it Happen Champion, alongside long-serving Orsted senior project director Jason Ledden, and RWE’s control room chief Nathan Kerins.

The Grimsby Fish Dock Group business unit head’s citation outlines “outstanding leadership in establishing a high-quality training facility that is helping to develop the skilled workforce needed to support the offshore wind industry's continued growth”. 

OTC Grimsby delivers Global Wind Organisation-certified Working at Height, Sea Survival, and other key courses, with replica 15m training tower and craneage rig alongside a modern learning environment on the quayside at Port of Grimsby East.  

The citation continues: “Terri spearheaded the opening of the centre, leading the development of its operational policies, quality processes, and comprehensive training programmes to ensure excellence from day one.

“Her strategic vision, collaborative leadership and commitment to continuous improvement have created a trusted training environment that equips learners with the skills and confidence to work safely and effectively in the sector. 

“By laying the foundations for a sustainable, industry-focused training centre, Terri has made a significant contribution to workforce development, regional growth and the UK's clean energy transition, making her a deserving nominee.”

Terri moved into the offshore wind sector after an early career in the fire service, developing her skillset from warehouse operations. She gained extensive knowledge of the specialist equipment requirements and mobilisation, before discovering her passion for training ahead of joining the Grimsby Fish Dock Group family in January 2024. She now heads up the organisation’s GRO Centre facility on Humber Bridge Road, where industry-specific training assets sit alongside the quayside-based professional learning environment.

Of the shortlisting, Terri said: “It is incredible to be recognised as a worthy consideration for this excellent award. I’m so proud of what we’re achieving in Grimsby, offering vital training in the heart of a world-leading cluster.

"This recognition gives us the opportunity to showcase to industry what OTC Grimsby is doing day-in day-out, and the investment that has been made to ensure the provision is in the right place.” 

The ceremony takes place at the Royal Lancaster London, on October 13.

Andrew Oliver, chief executive of Grimsby Fish Dock Group, said: “Terri’s leadership and tenacity to get us up and running with our own training provision has rightly been recognised by RenewableUK.

“OTC Grimsby is a strong element of our diverse group, and has huge synergies with our port operations and shipyard offering.  We not only look after vessels, and their requirements, but their crews too.”

A total of 14 categories cover people, projects and priorities. Other town representatives include Madeleine Warburton of RWE, nominated for Apprentice of the Year; with Jessica Westcott of Orsted and Neil Elliott of RWE for Hero Spotlight.

Orsted and OEG’s Apprentice Programme, Regional Growth Prospectuses with the Offshore Wind Industry Council & The Crown Estate and Sofia Offshore Wind Farm are competing in the Power in Collaboration category, with Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm, served from Port of Grimsby East, up for Asset Lifecycle Excellence. 

DN Colleges Group and RWE are bidding for the Powering the Future Workforce accolade, with Orsted’s Hornsea Three in the Inclusion in Action section. It also had its Mental Health and Wellbeing project head-to-head with RWE’s Offshore Wind Health, Safety and Wellbeing Initiatives in the People First Category. RWE’s Supporting the Social Fabric of Coastal Communities work is also included in the Community Impact in Offshore Wind shortlist.
