East Yorkshire bus passengers reminded not to forget their face coverings

East Yorkshire bus passengers reminded not to forget their face coverings

BUS company East Yorkshire is reminding passengers that from Monday 15 June the region’s bus passengers must wear a face covering when travelling.

The new government advice is designed to keep those who have to travel on the bus safe as they go to work, school or for essential shopping.

When the new rules come in, anyone boarding public transport will have to wear a face covering for the full journey, otherwise they will not be allowed to travel.

The face covering does not have to be a face mask, but can be something as simple as a scarf or bandana tied around the head.

Everyone who travels by public transport should wear a face covering, other than very young children, those who have breathing difficulties, or those who have a disability that means they cannot easily put on a face covering. Passengers who are exempt from wearing a face covering should explain this to the driver. It is important to remember that public transport capacity is limited, and people are being encouraged to only use it for necessary journeys.

East Yorkshire Area Director Ben Gilligan said:

“Bringing in face coverings means that people can travel by bus with more confidence. We already see many of our passengers heeding government advice to wear face coverings, so we’re hoping everyone will respect the new rule, and help us to keep everyone safe. This is in addition to other measures we have put in place, including social distancing and enhanced cleaning throughout the day.”

“We would also like to remind people that even with the new face covering rule, our buses can carry fewer people due to social distancing measures, so people should only travel if their journey is essential, to keep buses clear for those who need them most.”

Passengers can see more advice on travelling safely by bus, including advice on making a face covering at home, on the company’s website www.eastyorkshirebuses.co.uk
