Daisy Appeal newsletter launches newsletter to chart progress

THE Daisy Appeal has launched an official newsletter as it works towards completion of the Molecular Imaging Research Centre at Castle Hill Hospital, with the facility expected to be fully operational early in 2021.

The newsletter features updates on the construction project and on the all-important fundraising campaign. It is being distributed as a hard copy at various NHS sites in the Hull and East Yorkshire area and at University of Hull premises. The newsletter is also going out by email as a PDF.

The inaugural edition includes striking computer generated images of how the building will look when it’s finished, with comments from Daisy Appeal founder Professor Nick Stafford about the national and international significance of the ongoing investment at Castle Hill.

In addition Professor Steve Archibald of the PET Research Centre in the University’s Faculty of Health Sciences talks about the aim to provide new treatments with radiotracers from the MIR Centre being delivered direct to the adjacent Jack Brignall PET-CT Centre.

The newsletter also highlights the achievements of staff at Airco in Hull, who raised more than £3,000 from a race night, and the plans of Gary Parker, Managing Director of Integra, who is rearranging the date for a cycle ride from Paris to Benitachell near Alicante having already passed the halfway point on their £20,000 target.

The Daisy Appeal’s fundraising target for the MIR Centre is £8.5. The charity has already funded a research and development facility – the Daisy Building – which opened at Castle Hill in 2008 at a cost of £8.5 million and followed that by opening the £4.7 million Jack Brignall Centre in 2014.

Professor Stafford said: “The work which we are doing in Hull is already developing an excellent international and national research profile and the new centre will help us build on that.”
