Opening Doors for the Next Generation of Accountancy Professionals
Offer available from January 13, 2026 until February 13, 2026
This offer is provided by First Intuition Yorkshire & Humber.
For many young people, choosing a career can feel overwhelming. They may have the ability and ambition, but not always the opportunity to see what different professions really look like in practice.
Since launching in Leeds in 2017, First Intuition’s Accountancy Academy has welcomed hundreds of students from schools, academies, and colleges across Yorkshire. It has been a stepping stone for many young people eager to understand what it really takes to succeed in accountancy.
Whilst some students have a very clear idea about the career they would like to pursue, there are equally many who are unsure. The Academy gives the attendees a chance to explore the industry in a little more detail and decide whether it could be a suitable path for them. Many of our attendees go on to study accountancy either at university or as part of an apprenticeship.
Over the course of two days, Accountancy Academies give 16–18-year-olds the chance to explore careers in accounting and finance in a supportive and accessible way. Rather than focusing purely on exams or qualifications, the academies help students understand what a career in accountancy actually involves, from the variety of roles available to the different routes into the profession. By hearing directly from people working in the industry and taking part in practical sessions, students gain a clearer sense of how their interests and skills might translate into a professional pathway.
Participants are also introduced to the expectations of the workplace, learn how to present themselves through CVs and interviews, and begin to understand the professional behaviours needed for a successful career. For many, it is their first real glimpse of what working life could look like.
Alongside this early-stage support, First Intuition also host a networking event exclusive to young professionals. This spring, our Foundation Networking Group will host two sessions titled Overcoming Failure with Gareth John. In relaxed breakfast sessions, attendees hear from guest speakers, share experiences, and meet others who are navigating similar journeys.
These events offer space to grow, reflect and gain valuable skills for the workplace. If you know a young person who is curious about accountancy, finance or the wider business world, please share details of our upcoming events.
