AI is no longer just for big tech companies, Hull based businesses have been adopting the technology at an accelerated pace, with companies like North Humberside Motor Trades Group Training Association and Cloud Ten Events and Media seeing their business become “much more effective” with “results much improved" due to adopting the technology.
Against a backdrop of continuing OBR downgrades to productivity, AI is seen as an opportunity to offset this trend. The Hull and East Yorkshire Skills Bootcamp program has secured in excess of £10m to further and continue this adoption, one of the UK’s largest regional allocations.
By now, we have all heard the news about “AI” and what it can, could, or may do to work, our lives and communities. As time goes on through, we are seeing just how real those claims are and how big the impact really could be.
By 2030, estimates show that 59% of the global workforce will require AI training due to evolving skill demands (World Economic Forum, Future of Jobs Report, 2025). Whilst this may sound like science fiction, companies of all sizes throughout Hull and East Yorkshire are starting to embrace the technology more than ever before, helped in part through a range of funded courses, being offered by the UK’s Skills Bootcamp program.
North Humberside Motor Trades Group Training Association supported their student Rowan to complete a Digital Marketing with AI course, understanding the core elements of marketing and how to use AI more effectively in their role.
“I have learnt to be able to make posts more efficiently and monitor posts and how well they perform.” Said Rowan, outlining how the fundamentals of Digital Marketing can be effectively added to all industries. “I have also learnt how to use LLM’s (Large Language Models - a form of AI) to help me in my everyday marketing tasks at work.” Outlining how effective AI can be in supporting tasks to be completed more efficiently.
Right now, efficiency is certainly the name of the game. The recent downgrade in productivity was a central talking point to the late November budget where the OBR reduced productivity growth from 1.1% down to 0.8% - (OBR, Economic and Fiscal Outlook November 2025). This heaped further pressure on Rachel Reeves and added more woes to navigating balancing the books.
Against this continued backdrop of a productivity crisis, AI has long been touted as a solution to sluggish improvements, and companies who have embraced AI - have started to see how the technology can improve their output. Scott Ferry-Collins, Editor & Producer at Cloud Ten Events and Media took part in a Tech Educators AI Literacy course and has seen dramatic improvements to the business.
"I am already implementing my improved ability to write structured prompts into AI tools which has made our business much more effective and our results much improved." stated Ferry-Collins, "As a company we now have a much clearer understanding of AI ethics which is hugely beneficial especially when assuring clients, such as the major broadcasters we work with, who are very cautious of AI use”
The region boasts one of the country's largest allocations of funding, with £11,387,096 granted to the region to upskill its residents and workforce (GOV.UK). Bootcamps are taught via flexible, short courses with a clear goal for students: to step into a new role, take on greater responsibilities, or gain new work for their business.
Providers like Tech Educators’ offer a number of bootcamps, many with an element of AI although they vary in core focus. Courses like the Tech Educators Digital Marketing with AI course teaches learners how to integrate AI into marketing strategy, while the AI Literacy course equips students with foundational concepts, practical applications, ethical considerations, and essential professional skills. James Adams, Founder and CEO of Tech Educators was quick to note just why these skills are redefining outcomes for businesses.
“In a world that is ever evolving, with new challenges and demands, skills in emerging tech, such as AI, aren't optional anymore. Many don’t realise what you can do with the technology, or what compliance using it looks like, or how much impact it can have on productivity. That’s where Tech Educators come in; our bootcamps provide the essential skills to stay compliant, stay innovative, stay safe, and see the efficiency gains we want to see from embracing tech effectively.”
