Why a Private Office Still Matters — Even for 100% Online Businesses

FOR Hull-based entrepreneur Balaaj, founder of Plutove and Sonix Energy, the reality has been very different.

While both businesses operate online, Balaaj found early on that scaling modern, digital-first ventures still requires structure, focus, and a professional environment. Several months ago, he committed to a private office at Flexworks in Hull city centre, which has since become the operational base for both companies.

“Running an online business isn’t just about websites and platforms,” Balaaj explains.“It’s about the planning, coordination and decision-making that happens behind thescenes. Having a dedicated office allows me to treat the businesses with the
seriousness they deserve.”

For Balaaj, the shift away from working at home was as much psychological as it was practical. A private workspace created clear separation between personal and professional life, improved organisation, and provided a setting better suited to longterm growth.

“It keeps me focused and operating at a higher level,” he says. “Trying to manage everything from a bedroom or kitchen table quickly becomes overwhelming.”

The workspace has also played a role in how the businesses present themselves externally. As both brands develop content and communicate with partners and clients, having a professional,well-designed environment has helped elevate
their image and credibility.

For many online entrepreneurs across Hull and the Humber region, Balaaj’s experience highlights an important point: while technology enables flexibility, sustainable growth often still benefits from physical structure.

“I’ll be producing video content here for both brands. The space has a premium feel, it
genuinely elevates how the businesses are presented”, Balaaj adds.“You don’t need a  huge office to build somethingmeaningful, you just need the right environment
to grow."
