Pharmaceuticals Origin Ruling

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has issued a ruling on the origin of pharmaceuticals.

The British Chamber of Commerce network is aware that there have been issues with the origin of pharmaceuticals. In response to this, the BCC raised the question with DBT who have confirmed that the origin is determined by the last substantial
transformation and that testing and batch control are not sufficient to confer origin.

This contradicts the MHRA advice which for labelling purposes in the UK testing and batch control is sufficient
to allow companies to print UK origin on patient leaflets.

However, DBT confirmed with MHRC that for trading pharmaceuticals aboard it is not sufficient to confer origin.
