Local businesses come together to reduce waste in North Lincolnshire

Local businesses come together to reduce waste in North Lincolnshire

Karen from Ongo and David from Ellgia

ONGO has awarded Ellgia a huge new contract in a bid to invest locally and reduce their carbon footprint, following the completion of an extensive tendering process.

The three year agreement will see Ellgia taking control of Ongo’s waste management, increasing recycling rates and providing solutions for better waste disposal through source segregation.

The partnership began in April 2021 and is worth around £130k per annum. As well as the benefit of both being based in Scunthorpe, Ellgia also provide 24/7 carbon reporting and share Ongo’s commitment to the environment.

John Baker, Procurement Manager at Ongo said: “Making sure our organisation takes steps to be as environmentally friendly as possible is hugely important to us, which is why Ellgia were awarded this contract.

“We hope to reduce the amount of waste we generate, and see more of it being turned into new materials.  Even general waste will be transformed into fuel for power generation, at carbon controlled power stations.

“On top of this, being based so close to each other means we will also reduce our carbon footprint during everyday operations than with previous contracts. We are very excited to have them on board.”

Jack Lavington, Operations Director at Ellgia said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for two of Scunthorpe’s largest businesses and employers to work together.

“Our ‘zero to landfill’ ethos is a key factor in everything we do and it’s great to be given the opportunity to partner with Ongo and help them achieve their goals in making our area a greener, more sustainable place to live.”
