CBAM - UK and EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms

CBAM has been developed to align trade policies with climate objectives and is poised to reshape the landscape of international commerce. The EU' Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism is the EU's tool to put a "fair price on the carbon emitted" during the production of carbon intensive goods that are entering the EU, and to encourage cleaner industrial production in non-EU countries. By confirming that a price has been paid for the embedded carbon emissions generated on the production of certain goods imported into the EU, the CBAM will ensure the carbon price of imports is equivalent to the carbon price of domestic production.

CBAM is in its transitional phase in the EU and applies to imports of cement, iron, steel, aluminium, fertilisers, electricity, hydrogen. The UK's CBAM is subject to further consultation in 2024 and will apply to imports of aluminium, cement, ceramics, fertilisers, glass, hydrogen, iron and steel.

George Riddell (Trade Strategy Director, EY LLP) will provide an update on the current landscape of EU and UK Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, an overview of the current and future reporting requirements under the EU’s CBAM regime for UK exporters and practical tips what businesses can be doing now to prepare.

Business Lunch - Keeping Our Shipping Lanes Open and Maintaining Our International Trade and Supply Chains

Our keynote speaker for our business lunch will be Commodore Thomas Knowles from the Royal Navy who will talk about the Navy's role in keeping our shipping lanes open and defending the UK's interests at home and abroad, its work in helping to prevent the Houthi attacks on commercial and naval shipping in the Red Sea and maintaining our international trade and supply chains, which, as we have seen, affect business and lead to raw material shortages, price rises and inflation in the UK when they are interrupted by international conflicts.

Book your place here. Don't miss out on this opportunity to hear from the experts, ask your questions, have private consultations and network with fellow international traders.
