Spencer Rail Engineering unites industry partners in innovative PRINT® Workshop to drive collaborative delivery of Waterbeach Station

Spencer Rail Engineering unites industry partners in innovative PRINT® Workshop to drive collaborative delivery of Waterbeach Station

Members of Spencer Rail Engineering, Network Rail, Greater Cambridge Partnership and SLC at Spencer Rail Engineering HQ

SPENCER Rail Engineering has been appointed to deliver a new railway station on behalf of GCP, helping to support the expanding community in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, where over 11,000 new homes are being built.

Led by the company’s Development Director and PRINT® Coach, Lee Green, the workshop brought together project teams across all organisations with the aim of exploring how they can work collaboratively on one of the region’s most vital infrastructure programmes.

PRINT® is utilised by organisations to help boost performance and improve communication across the workforce by helping individuals better understand each other.

Staff from each of the project teams undertook a survey and received a personalised PRINT profile based on their responses, which revealed their Unconscious Motivators, Best Self behaviours and their potential Shadow traits.

The workshop opened with a presentation on the purpose of PRINT® explaining each Unconscious Motivator and importantly, the Triggers linked to each one. Triggers are responsible for Shadow behaviours and promote poor productivity.

The teams spent the remainder of the workshop discussing their results and exploring how the different personality types within each team would commit to working effectively together through a better understanding of one another’s Unconscious Motivators and Triggers.

Waterbeach station is a major project for all stakeholders, and all teams share a similar goal; however, they each bring distinct priorities and expertise that drive success.

The PRINT® Workshop has supported a deeper understanding of each organisation’s unconscious motivators and behavioural drivers, aligning GCP’s work to sustainable, well-connected growth, Network Rail’s focus on safe and future-ready infrastructure, SLC’s collaborative delivery approach and SRE’s drive to deliver innovative and practical solutions.

Alex Rowley, Engineering Manager at SLC said:

“At SLC, we’re used to making third-party infrastructure projects happen and one thing that consistently stands out on successful projects is the importance of strong collaboration. Bringing multiple organisations together like we did in this workshop is invaluable. It helps build a shared understanding of how key individuals operate and communicate, which will be crucial in the development of the detailed design and the construction of the project.”

Matthew Lee, Senior Project Manager at Spencer Rail Engineering, added:

"At project outset, it was agreed that collaboration was the key to success on the Waterbeach project. This PRINT workshop was one of the many ways the whole project team has demonstrated our commitment to working collaboratively with the best interests of the project as the main focus. The PRINT workshop was a really interesting session and had a fantastic level of engagement across all of our project partners and I’m excited to see how our commitment to collaborative working develops as we work towards starting on site.”
