Renowned restaurant planning special night of Mardi Gras and Mad Dogs

Renowned restaurant planning special night of Mardi Gras and Mad Dogs

Mardi Gras will be unmasked on Friday at 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar.

A RESTAURANT which is renowned for serving up the sensational flavours of Spain will this week add a French flourish with a one-off Friday night Mardi Gras menu.

Chefs at 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar have taken inspiration from one of the world’s great festivals of food, drink and music to create a dining experience which will feature their take on some of the classic flavours of New Orleans.

Entertainment will be provided by musicians from Hull-based roots and blues specialists Mad Dog Jazz Trio.

The special Mardi Gras menu will be served in addition to the restaurant’s regular menus and will draw on Cajun and Creole influences with a selection of seven dishes priced at just £25 per person.

The service will start with a platter of olive and sundried tomato focaccia, olives, cured meats, Manchego and hummus before the restaurant jazzes things up a bit with some Creole spiced crab cakes followed by a zingy chorizo jambalaya.

The Mardi Gras salad combines cabbage and yellow pepper with blue cheese and a French bustard dressing and next up are the pan-seared chicken wings finished in a Cajun butter and presented on a hanging skewer with Padron peppers.

The gumbo brings together mussels and prawns in a spicy tomato sauce finished with jalapenos and the menu is completed with baby potatoes triple cooked in mixed spice and served with Cajun aioli.

Also available will be some Cajun cocktails and some special Mardi Gras desserts.

Deborah Spicer, Director of 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar, said: “In the UK we love our pancakes but Mardi Gras is something else – the Cajun and Creole flavours of New Orleans cooking are so exciting and similar in many ways to the dishes served up by our chefs.

“We’ll still be serving our normal menus but for all the people who can’t make their way down to Louisiana we decided to bring Mardi Gras from the Mississippi to the Humber with a special menu and some great sounds from the Mad Dogs!”

Bookings are available throughout Friday evening from 5pm with last orders from the kitchen at 9.30pm. For reservations please call 01482 216306.
