Hessle-based developer gets onside to sponsor high-profile rugby tournament

Linden Homes East Yorkshire sales manager Julie Hubbard with event organise David Reid.

FOLLOWING the success of last year’s inaugural Colts Rugby Festival – developer Linden Homes East Yorkshire is once again onside as headline event sponsors.

The Hessle-based developer has teamed up with the long running Hull Ionians RUFC, a rugby union club in the National I league, to sponsor its Colts 7-a-side Easter tournament.

The tournament will see 26 teams from clubs in Lancashire, Cheshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and around Yorkshire take part alongside Hull Ionians’ Colts as part of the sporting festival. This will make it the largest Colts Club 7-a-side rugby festival in the North of England and it is supported by the RFU and the Yorkshire Referees Development Group.

Club marketing director Emma Richards said: “The tournament was so well received and supported last year that we are delighted to be repeating it again in 2017. The demand for rugby at this level locally and across the region is very high and Hull Ionians are very happy to be involved in promoting the sport.

“We are hugely grateful once again to Linden Homes East Yorkshire for their generous sponsorship.”

The family-friendly event at Brantingham Park takes place Easter Sunday, April 16 between 10.30am and 5pm, and there will be an all-day BBQ as well as post-tournament refreshments in the clubhouse.

Linden Homes’ sponsorship also includes branded hoarding displayed around the ground and support of the club’s newsletter.

Sales director Steve Woomble said: “As a regional developer at the heart of the community, we are very happy to once again be supporting this tournament for promising young players and everyone involved with this successful and committed club. We wish everyone taking part the very best of luck on the day.”

Clubs which will be taking part in the event are Lincoln, West Park, Selby, Chester, York, Doncaster, Wharfedale,  Leigh, Pocklington, Old Rishworthians, West Bridgford, Hull Ionians, Sheffield, Huddersfield, Nottingham Paviors, Market Rasen. Scunthorpe, Hullensians, Ripon, Malton & Norton, Mansfield, Goole, Bradford Bees and Wetherby,

Hull Ionians was formed in 1989 by the merging of Hull and East Riding with Ionians, but was established as a club in its own right in 1929.

The National I league is the third highest level in English rugby behind the Premiership and Championship. The Club has four senior adult teams, a Colts team and teams in the Mini Junior Section from U6 through to U16 covering all age groups.
