Equans and Ongo launch ‘EmpowerHer’ to equip women with practical home and DIY skills

Equans and Ongo launch ‘EmpowerHer’ to equip women with practical home and DIY skills

The course will help 12 women to improve their practical skills for everyday tasks such as basic plumbing, decorating, and repairs.

THE course, delivered in partnership with Ongo, focuses on practical, everyday tasks such as basic plumbing, decorating, and home repairs. It’s aimed at Ongo tenants and community members who want to feel more confident managing their homes.

The course runs on Tuesday 9 September and aims to upskill up to 12 women.

Upon completion, each participant will receive a free toolkit to continue building their skills at home.

“This course is about more than just DIY – it’s about empowerment,” said Emma Patrick, Social Value Specialist at Ongo. “We want to give women the tools, knowledge, and confidence to take control of their home environments.

“EmpowerHer is a brilliant example of how our contractors go above and beyond and we are very thankful to Equans for their work in making this happen. It’s about building skills, confidence, and community, and that’s exactly what our social value mission is all about.”

What EmpowerHer offers:

  • Friendly, supportive sessions led by skilled professionals
  • Practical demonstrations and hands on learning
  • Tips on safety, tools, and maintenance

Amy Wheatley, Assistant Social Value Manager at Equans: “We are proud to be delivering our EmpowerHer Programme in collaboration with Ongo.

“The aim is to equip local women not only with the skills to complete DIY tasks in their home, but to also feel empowered to build confidence within themselves.

The skills and knowledge gained will allow independent women to create a brighter future.”

This initiative is part of Ongo’s wider Social Value Strategy, which ensures that all contractors and suppliers contribute positively to the communities they work in. From employment and training to wellbeing and community investment, Ongo’s partnerships are built on shared values and a commitment to creating lasting impact.
