CASE counting on support from businesses to celebrate milestone

CASE counting on support from businesses to celebrate milestone

Pictured are Steve Rusling of CASE and Amanda Smith of NatWest setting up one of the Safer Internet Day workshops.

TWO of the region’s top restaurants are backing a business campaign to support a charity which is in its 35th year of working to improve life choices for people with a learning disability.

CASE Training Services also recruited NatWest to help with its programme of events to commemorate the milestone and Steve Rusling, the charity’s Marketing Manager, said he is hoping to attract more interest from businesses at a major event later this month.

Steve said: “We have made what for us is a significant investment by sponsoring the networking lunch at the annual general meeting of the Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce and we really hope the Chamber members and their guests will sign up for some of our events or organise their own activities.

“The Chamber has managed to secure the services of a major speaker in Emma Hardy, the MP for Hull West and Hessle and there’s no doubt that will add to the appeal of the event. We’ll be promoting the lunch through our own networks and we’ll take the opportunity on the day to raise awareness of the work of CASE and to get more businesses on board.”

Amanda Smith, Community Banker for NatWest in Hull and East Yorkshire, visited the CASE headquarters in Charles Street, Hull, to advise trainees and staff about online security and to highlight the Friends Against Scams initiative as part of Safer Internet Day.

Amanda said: “Friends Against Scams is a National Trading Standards initiative which aims to prevent and protect people from becoming a victim of scams. NatWest have partnered up with training standards and all Community Bankers are trained to deliver awareness sessions including information on common scams happening within our area and how to protect your personal information and money.

“The trainees spend a lot of time online as part of their work within CASE and in their daily lives. Some of them spend a lot of time at home and rely on the internet for friendship and communication and for carrying out many day-to-day tasks so it is essential that they are able to do that safely.”

Hull’s acclaimed tour guide Paul Schofield will join forces with award-winning restaurant 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar to present an Old Town walk with quiz supper on Thursday 21 May.

Deborah Spicer, Director of 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar, said: “We were thinking about how to help CASE celebrate their milestone year and we came up with the idea of a tour and tapas – Paul will lead guests on one of his fascinating walks which will then arrive here for dinner, drinks and a test of how much they can remember!”

Another restaurant, Rupert & Darwin in Princes Avenue, Hull, will make a donation to CASE from the sale of every starter, main and dessert meal during the month of March and is also planning to organise a special fund-raising evening.

James MacLeod-Birch, Proprietor and Managing Director, said: “We’re aware of how full of life the trainees are and how hard CASE work and we were lucky enough to join them last year for their Winteringham Fields pop-up restaurant. We’ve been looking for a way to support them and we hope to make March a month to remember.”

Steve said: “The response from 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar and Rupert & Darwin has been fantastic and we are very grateful to both restaurants. We’d love to hear from more businesses that are interested in organising large or small events as part of our programme of celebrations.”
