Bake sale competition hotting-up at The Deep Business Centre

Bake sale competition hotting-up at The Deep Business Centre

CAMARADERIE and a little competition came to the fore as clients and staff at The Deep Business Centre held their annual October bake sale and raffle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event brought in around £250 to top up the thousands of pounds raised by the team at the Centre over the years for a variety of good causes including Macmillan, Children in Need and Hull Homeless Outreach.

Paul Bowater, Branch Head and Chartered Financial Planner at LEBC Group – a business which has operated from the Centre for more than 12 years – said: “The management of the Business Centre organise a few fund-raising events and we have done a few things ourselves as well. One of our colleagues raised a lot of money for Macmillan over the years and we have also had people who have benefited from Macmillan’s work.

“It’s good to see people in the Business Centre coming together, donating money and raffle prizes and baking cakes, with a bit of competition between some of them   trying to come up with the best one!”

Leahanne Shillito, a receptionist at the Business Centre, said: “We have been raising money for Macmillan with our October event for four or five years now and we support other charities during the year, bringing together clients, business suppliers and other contacts and staff from our building and from the aquarium.”

Dawn West, who works in admin at The Deep, said: “I felt proud to be part of the Macmillan coffee morning and it was so lovely to see others getting involved and wanting to help. My involvement was with setting up and publicising the event for our social media platforms. Seeing everyone come together over such an important issue that affects many of us in one way or another was very heart warming.

“As a business I think it's important for us to be involved in such events as it's a great opportunity to raise awareness and funds and hopefully save lives, and of course to catch up with friends and colleagues over a coffee and some cake!”

Luda Whitelam, who works on reception at The Deep added: ““I was very pleased to help the Business Centre in raising funds for their Macmillan Coffee Morning. The cakes on display were wonderful – well done to all those who donated this year.”
