Health & Safety often concentrates on the high-risk sectors of industry and the high-risk elements of works (and rightly so), but that doesn’t mean that you as employers and managers don’t have to look after those employees whose jobs are less risky.
DSE users make up a huge percentage of the UK workforce and, although not generally a high-risk group, there are associated risks, including upper limb disorders, back and neck pain, eye problems and Repetitive Strain Injury for instance.
RSI is known to affect 1 in 50 UK workers. 5.4 million working days were known to have been lost last year alone due to RSI, and every day 6 people leave their job due to an RSI condition.
To help you comply with your requirements of the Health & Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 (as amended 2002), we are offering a free self-assessment checklist for all Chamber members.
This checklist should be given to your employees (both existing and new starters) and reviewed. The assessment doesn’t just cover items that might lead to RSI, it covers the environment, the furniture, software used and training.
The self-assessment shows a commitment to employee wellbeing and to improving workplace and working conditions. Don’t just do the self-assessments and then file them away, your employees should feel confident that what they put on their assessments will be given fair consideration and that their needs are being met.
Drop us an email and we will send you a copy the self-assessment sheet.
