Simply Gardening for Schools to build show garden at BBC Gardeners World Live
Simply Gardening for Schools Ltd is a new and dynamic none profit making company that has been formed by the award winning gardening company “Simply Gardening”, website design and e-commerce company “Crystal Pyramid” and marketing company “Kinetic Advertising”.
Their prime objective is to design, construct and maintain gardens in schools that not only give the children an outdoor area to learn but will inspire them to do things like grow their own fruit and vegetables that can be cooked and eaten in their own schools canteen.
This year Simply Gardening for Schools have been accepted to build an inspiring show garden at the prestigious BBC Gardeners World Live event which will be held 10th – 14th June. The garden itself will feature raised vegetable beds, an abundance of soft fruit, a wildlife area for birds and a loggery for mini beasts and hedgehogs. A greenhouse will display lots of things the children can grow under glass and a shed will be fully stocked with children’s tools. A 6meter shade sail will give dappled shade and we are looking forward to see it all.
After the show the garden will be carefully removed and transported back to North Lincolnshire where it will be rebuilt at Leys Farm Junior School in Bottesford ready for the schools established gardening club to take over. The Royal Horticultural Society will also be using the garden as they has signed a deal with the school to start training courses to train Nth Lincolnshire’s teachers how to teach the children and spread the word.
Managing director for simply gardening for schools, John Cavill said “This garden will show schools, teachers, children and parents just how easy and fun it is to grow your own. The show garden will have a mixture of familiar things and not so familiar, but one thing is for sure, the school will have about 5 weeks after its built to cook, eat and enjoy what we have grown for the show before their summer holidays, giving them inspiration for the next term and endless gardening possibilities”
After building the largest ever show garden in 2006 at BBC Gardeners’ World Live and winning a silver medal, John and his original show garden team from Paul Finnis Landscaping Services and Laburnums Hardy Plant Nursery at Barton upon Humber are going for the RHS Gold which is the icing on the cake for anybody who works in horticulture.
Well-known gardener Alan Titchmarsh said: "Anything we can do to raise an awareness of the benefits and the importance of growing plants among children is hugely important. Congratulations John and good luck!"
