Humber LEP given official approval by Ministers
Business leaders have welcomed today’s announcement that the proposed Humber Local Enterprise Partnership has been approved by Ministers, just one week after it was submitted.
Howard O’Neill, President of Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce, said: “It is excellent news that the Ministers have approved the Humber LEP proposal. The support from business for this has been outstanding, and with the backing of all four Humber local authorities and the University of Hull I am sure we can make our LEP one of the best in the country. We are united behind a common purpose and we know what our priorities are, so that should make us a force to be reckoned with.”
John Clugston, Chairman of the Humber LEP, said: “We are grateful to the Ministers for giving us their backing. The LEP has a big job ahead of it and we want to start making a difference as quickly as possible. Our interim Board is now in place and will meet for the first time on 23 June. We have also begun work on the Enterprise Zone bid and will be meeting some of the Ministers’ officials next week to discuss our case. With the continued support of all partners I am sure we can make this LEP a success.”
Decentralisation Minister Greg Clark MP said:
"I'm delighted to announce that we are approving the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership today. This partnership has the ambition, ideas and business involvement to really exploit the potential for growth across the Humber area.
"I have taken a close interest in this local enterprise partnership and the potential it has to positively shape the future of the Humber local economy. Local business and civic leaders in the Humber area are now poised to realise major opportunities for economic development in renewable energy, ports, logistics and chemicals. They should now move swiftly to appoint their business led board and make their plans for a growth a reality."
Business Minister Mark Prisk MP added:
"It's excellent news that we are able to approve the proposal for a local enterprise partnership in the Humber, after months of negotiations between the interested parties.
"With the Regional Growth Fund and the Enterprise Zones both open for bids, now is the time for local enterprise partnerships to seize the opportunities to bring significant investment to their areas. This partnership will have the best interests of the area at its heart, and I want all local communities to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of the private sector and the opportunities that growth brings."
